Who Is the Quarter Horse Racing Professor?
Having analyzed thousands and thousands of Quarter Horse races at his beloved home track, Los Alamitos Race Course in California, veteran racing analyst Steve Sharp is a college English professor with more than 15 years of handicapping experience.
His advanced research and teaching degree (he holds a Master's degree in English), along with his significant writing experience, helped him analyze and evaluate the comprehensive data obtained from one of the most unique research projects in horse racing.
After learning the fundamentals of handicapping by studying dozens of Thoroughbred texts, Professor Sharp soon discovered that Quarter Horse racing was his true passion. However, he realized that very little research and literature is available for serious students of the game who want to learn how to handicap independently rather than relying on tote sheets or experts' picks.
To remedy this situation, he applied his analytical thinking and research skills to conduct original Quarter Horse racing research projects on par times, winning connections, and handicapping checklists. Recently he placed second in Los Alamitos' "Dash to the Challenge" handicapping contest.
Professor Sharp has more than 16 years of college-level teaching experience. He teaches writing courses and has been identified as an "Excellent Instructor" and "Natural Helper" by his students. His academic writing includes instructional guides, test questions, administrative reports, and a curricular unit for a textbook.
Sharp's non-academic work has appeared in a variety of publications. Recently he earned "Expert Author" status at gather.com for his online article on Quarter Horse racing. He has also been published in the Indiana Quarter Horse Journal and Bridle and Bit. The website stallionesearch.com (www.stallionesearch.com) has also published an excerpt from Fast Horses, Fast Money. Initially training to be a sportswriter, Sharp served as a Sports Editor and wrote columns, features, and news articles for commercial and college publications.
